Terms of use

These terms explain the rules for using Car News 247: what you can do with our stories, what we ask of you, and what we’re responsible for. We’ve kept them as short and plain as we can.

About these terms

Car News 247 is an online automotive news publication. When these terms say “we”, “us” or “our”, they mean Car News 247. “You” means anyone who visits or uses the site.

By using the site, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy, which forms part of them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.

Using the site

You can read every story on Car News 247 for free, without an account, for your own personal, non-commercial use. We’re constantly improving the site, so features and content may change, and occasionally the site may be unavailable while we maintain it or fix a problem.

We may restrict or block access for anyone who breaks these terms or puts the site or its readers at risk.

Our content and copyright

The stories, headlines, photographs, videos, graphics, logos and design of Car News 247 belong to us or to the people who license them to us, such as photographers, manufacturers and news agencies. They are protected by the Copyright Act and other intellectual property laws.

The Car News 247 name and logo are our trademarks. Manufacturer names, model names and logos that appear in our coverage belong to their owners, and mentioning them doesn’t mean the owner endorses us.

Sharing and quoting our stories

We love it when readers share our work. You’re welcome to:

  • Share links to our stories by email, messaging apps and social media.
  • Quote a short extract (a sentence or two) for news reporting, review or discussion, as long as you name Car News 247 as the source and link to the original story.
  • Print or save a story for your own personal reading.

For anything more, such as republishing a full story, using our photos or videos, or any commercial use, please ask us first at hello@carnews247.com.

What’s not allowed

When you use Car News 247, please don’t:

  • Copy, republish or sell our stories, photos or videos, in full or in large parts, without permission.
  • Use robots, scrapers or other automated tools to collect our content in bulk, or use our content to train, test or feed artificial intelligence systems, without our written permission.
  • Show our pages inside another website (framing) or present our work as your own.
  • Remove or change copyright notices, bylines or source credits.
  • Try to break into, overload or disrupt the site, get around its security, or access areas that aren’t meant for you.
  • Send spam, malicious code, or anything unlawful, abusive or misleading through our forms.

If you break these rules and it causes us loss or a claim from someone else, you may be responsible for it, to the extent the law allows.

Accuracy and no professional advice

We check our facts and correct mistakes quickly, but we can’t guarantee that every detail is complete, accurate or up to date. Car news moves fast, and in particular:

  • Prices, specifications, features and launch dates are often provisional, differ between countries and change after publication. Always confirm them with the manufacturer or a dealer before making a decision.
  • Rumours, spy shots and reports are labelled as such. They describe what’s being said or seen, not confirmed facts.
  • Reviews and opinion pieces reflect the honest view of the writer at the time.

Our stories are general information, not financial, legal, insurance or mechanical advice. For decisions about buying, financing, insuring or repairing a vehicle, speak to a qualified professional. Driving, motorsport and track content is for information and entertainment: please never try anything on a public road that could put you or others at risk, and always follow the law.

Sources, links and embedded content

Our reporting often draws on manufacturer announcements and other publications. When it does, we write the story in our own words and credit the source under the story. If you believe we’ve used your work without proper credit or permission, tell us and we’ll look into it promptly (see corrections and complaints).

Our stories may link to other websites or include videos and posts from services such as YouTube, Vimeo and social networks. We don’t control those sites or services and aren’t responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. Their own terms apply when you use them.

Advertising and sponsored content

Advertising helps keep Car News 247 free to read. Our newsroom is independent: advertisers don’t decide what we write, and sponsored articles and paid features are always clearly labelled.

An advertisement doesn’t mean we endorse the product or advertiser. Any purchase or agreement you make with an advertiser is between you and them. Businesses interested in advertising can find out more on our advertising page; separate terms apply to advertising campaigns.

Tips, photos and messages you send us

We welcome story tips, feedback and photos. When you send us something, you confirm that it’s yours to share (or that you have permission) and that it doesn’t break the law or anyone else’s rights.

You keep ownership of what you send. If we’d like to publish your photo or video, we’ll ask you first and credit you as you prefer. Tips and information you send may be used in our reporting, and we protect the identity of sources who ask us to. We don’t promise to reply to or publish every submission.

Member accounts and paid membership

Coming soon: membership

We’re preparing member accounts with extra content and features. These terms will be updated with the full details before membership launches, but the main points will be:

  • Member accounts are for people aged 18 and over. Please keep your sign-in details private.
  • Before you pay for anything, we’ll show you the price, what’s included, how often you’ll be billed and how to cancel.
  • You’ll be able to cancel at any time from your account. Cancelling stops future payments, and you keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
  • As the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act allows, you’ll be able to cancel a new paid membership within seven days of signing up for a full refund.
  • If we change membership prices, we’ll tell members in advance, and any change will apply from the next billing period.

Our responsibility to you

Please read this section carefully. It limits our responsibility for loss or damage connected with using the site.

We provide Car News 247 “as is”. As far as the law allows, we aren’t responsible for loss or damage that results from:

  • relying on information on the site, for example a price or specification that has since changed;
  • the site being unavailable, slow or interrupted;
  • third-party websites, embedded content or advertisers;
  • viruses or other harmful code, despite the reasonable steps we take to prevent them.

This doesn’t limit our responsibility for loss caused by our gross negligence or deliberate wrongdoing, or any responsibility that can’t legally be limited, and it doesn’t affect your rights under the Consumer Protection Act.

Corrections and complaints

If you spot a mistake in one of our stories, or you have a complaint about our content, including a copyright concern, email hello@carnews247.com with a link to the story and what you believe is wrong. We’ll look into it promptly and, where we got something wrong, correct or remove it.

Your privacy

Our privacy policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it and the choices you have. In short: we never sell your personal information or use it for marketing.

Changes to these terms

We’ll update these terms when the site or the law changes, for example when member accounts launch. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If we make a significant change, we’ll highlight it on the site and, for members, let you know by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and South African courts can hear any dispute about them. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. If you have a concern, please contact us first; most problems can be sorted out quickly and informally.
