Honda has revised the Civic Type R for 2027 with aerodynamic, suspension and equipment changes and will bring the updated car to US dealers later this month. The performance hatchback will not continue in Europe as the brand reshapes its line-up to meet stricter rules.
The front end has been discreetly redesigned with a larger grille opening and a deeper front splitter. Honda says the changes reduce turbulence, increase airflow velocity to the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and add downforce.
Suspension damping in +R mode has been reworked to improve road-following performance and to reduce bouncing and impact harshness, the company adds.
Honda has also addressed pedal feel by adding a yoke spring to the brake linkage and tweaked the rev-matching system for faster downshift response. The Type R remains manual-only.
Interior and equipment upgrades
The cabin gains standard heated front seats, Ultrasuede on the upper dashboard and front door panels, new diamond-pattern dashboard trim and darker aluminium shift-knob and trim finishes. The centre console now adds two USB-C ports above the wireless smartphone charger.
Safety and convenience have been upgraded: an auto-dimming rearview mirror, improved adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, collision-mitigation braking with post-collision braking and built-in Google with Maps and Play are now standard.
The updated 2027 Civic Type R starts at $49,990, including destination and handling — $1,300 more than the previous model year, Honda says.
Honda previously said it will discontinue the Civic Type R in Europe as its line-up 'evolves' to comply with stricter legislation, making the US-updated version one of the last chances for buyers there to get the FL5 Type R.
Honda has also been linked to plans for a hotter HRC variant. The HRC Concept is reportedly being considered for production as a more heavily tuned, higher‑priced version of the FL5 Type R.
