Nissan plans to make hybrid powertrains the "primary powertrain" in its North American lineup by 2030, the automaker has said, according to Automotive News.
The first model to arrive in the U.S. with Nissan’s e‑Power hybrid system will be the redesigned 2027 Rogue, which is due this fall. The Rogue Hybrid is expected to reach dealerships in November with a starting price of $37,065.

Nissan expects the e‑Power Rogue to quickly account for 30 to 40 percent of Rogue sales, the report says.
Automotive News also reports Nissan plans an e‑Power version of the Kicks and is developing a hybrid V‑6 powertrain intended for a new line of trucks and rugged SUVs. The first likely application of that V‑6 hybrid is the returning Xterra, which is slated to arrive around 2028.
The report says the 2028 Xterra will be an off‑road‑oriented body‑on‑frame SUV and that Nissan plans to build it in Mississippi.

Initial shipments of the 2027 Rogue will come from Nissan’s Kyushu plant in Japan, with the company planning to add Rogue Hybrid production at its Smyrna, Tennessee, plant beginning in 2028. Nissan says producing the Rogue in the U.S. will move the brand toward roughly 80 percent localised production by 2030.
The push follows a growing market for hybrids in North America and comes after Nissan had only one hybrid in its 2026 line‑up—a Rogue plug‑in hybrid that the company used as a stopgap until the arrival of the 2027 Rogue e‑Power. Nissan made the timeline and production plans public through Automotive News.
Automotive News projects most of Nissan’s planned hybrids will start appearing in 2028, though the Rogue e‑Power arrives earlier. South African availability, local pricing and timing for any of these models have not been confirmed.
