JAC Motors South Africa has expanded its T-Series with two new T9 2.0L CTi Black Edition 4x4 models offered in Hunter and Super Lux specifications. The company also confirmed that a T9 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) will launch locally in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The Black Edition is designed to give the T9 a tougher, more distinctive appearance. Exterior changes include a black radiator grille, matt‑black 18‑inch alloy wheels, black roof rails, exterior mirrors, door handles and trim. Inside, JAC fits a black leather‑enhanced interior intended to be both durable and easy to clean.

The Hunter Black Edition adds unique Hunter‑branded decals on the sides and tailgate and comes with branded nudge and style bars, a tonneau cover and a tow bar as standard. The Hunter's cabin also receives branded headrests and heavy‑duty floor carpets.
Powertrain outputs differ between the two Black Edition variants: the Hunter produces 144 kW and 487 Nm, while the Super Lux delivers 125 kW and 444 Nm. Both use the T9’s 2.0‑litre four‑cylinder turbo‑diesel with direct injection, common‑rail technology, an intercooler and an Electrical Variable Geometry Turbocharger (EVGT).
The diesel is paired with a ZF eight‑speed automatic transmission and offers Sport, Normal, Eco and Snow driving modes. JAC quotes combined‑cycle fuel consumption of 7.8 L/100 km for the 2.0 CTi drivetrain.
The T9’s off‑road and towing hardware include a centre‑console dial to engage 4WD at speeds up to 80 km/h, low‑range functionality and a rear electronic differential lock. Braked towing capacity is 3 500 kg.
Retail prices across the T9 line-up run from R549 900 to R689 900. The range and prices are: T9 2.0L CTi 4x2 Lux R549 900; T9 2.0L CTi 4x4 Lux R609 900; T9 2.0L CTi 4x2 Super Lux R599 900; T9 2.0L CTi 4x2 Hunter R629 900; T9 2.0L CTi 4x4 Black Edition R629 900; and T9 2.0L CTi 4x4 Hunter Black Edition R689 900.
Standard ownership cover for the T9 includes a five‑year or 200 000 km manufacturer’s warranty, a seven‑year or 100 000 km service plan and 24‑hour roadside assistance for five years or 200 000 km. The first service is scheduled at 10 000 km, then at 15 000 km intervals.
JAC supplied further technical details for the forthcoming T9 PHEV: a 2.0‑litre turbo‑petrol engine combined with electric motors on the front and rear axles produces a combined 360 kW and 674 Nm. The system uses a 31.2 kWh battery, offers an electric driving range of up to 100 km and supports onboard charging; DC fast charging from 15% to 80% takes about 30 minutes, JAC says.
The T9 line‑up is offered in eight colours — Star Grey, Grey, Silver, White, Black, Red, Yellow and Blue — and owners can personalise vehicles with a range of accessories aimed at both work and leisure use. JAC says its dealer network of more than 70 outlets across Southern Africa will support sales and after‑sales for the model.
Karl‑Heinz Göbel, CEO of JAC Motors South Africa, said the Black Edition derivatives provide customers seeking a premium 4x4 bakkie with distinctive styling, special specification and an electronic diff‑lock, along with fuel economy, comfort and passenger‑car safety and drivability.
